nicpelI just got the most interesting comment on my article about Combating Bullying and Intolerance in Our Schools. To quote:
bullying will NEVER end. While I find it sad that children are committing suicide over the bullying, I am MORE bothered by the continual use of the term "homo-PHOBIC". As one who does not accept homosexuality as a natural act of sexuality, I get REALLY tired of being labeled "phobic". I'm not phobic about homosexuality.
So, let me get this straight...teens driven to suicide over their sexuality and harassment from schoolmates/teachers is NOT NEARLY AS BAD as you not liking being called phobic because you "don't accept" homosexuality. OK then. Yeah, that's just a shining star of an example of what's wrong out there and why no, bullying never WILL end, isn't it?
Now I'm wondering what's a better name for homophobes, then. Anyone got any bright ideas? Homo-haters? Homo-deniers? Or better yet, how about just plain old intolerant assholes?
PS: The person who left that comment is another AC writer...who decided to leave that comment while not logged in while still signing it with her name? Guess she didn't want us homo-non-haters to go comment on her articles or something. Whatever.
